Celebrating our front of house team
The amazing work of Solent’s front of house team is being celebrated today as part of International Receptionists’ Day.
Our receptionists play a crucial role in keeping our hospitals and health buildings running smoothly.
Usually the first point of contact, they provide a friendly welcome and reassuring steer for hundreds of patients, visitors and colleagues.
But there is much more to our reception team than the frontline meeting and greeting.
Behind the scenes, they are kept busy dealing with phone and email enquiries, deliveries, equipment issues, maintenance and every problem you can think of in between.
Currently, Solent NHS Estates and Facilities has 25 receptionists and three reception supervisors.
The team works across six sites: Western Community Hospital Campus (including Adelaide Health Centre), Pickles Coppice, Thornhill Health Centre, Bitterne Health Centre and Highpoint, all in Southampton, along with St Mary’s Community Health Campus in Portsmouth.
Steve Scutchings, Site Operations Manager, said: “Our reception teams are absolutely outstanding.
“As our front of house, they are responsible for creating that important first impression; making people feel welcome and putting patients at ease.
“They deal quietly and efficiently with anything and everything that is thrown their way and somehow still manage to have a smile on their faces, often in the most challenging of circumstances.”
Today we say a formal thank you to each and every one of our reception team, who do a first-class job all year round.
