Staff gardens provide peaceful retreat
Our new staff gardens in Portsmouth and Southampton are open!
Providing the perfect green space for staff to enjoy a break, the transformed garden areas at St Mary’s Community Health Campus and the Western Community Hospital have been generously funded by NHS Charities Together.
The money was raised in part by the late former British Army officer Captain Sir Tom Moore in tribute to NHS staff in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mark Young, Associate Director of Estates Transformation, said: “Our new gardens provide the perfect place for staff to have a break and take in a breath of fresh air during their busy working day.
“We are extremely grateful to NHS Charities Together, and in particular Captain Sir Tom, for funding this very worthwhile project. It’s great to see the gardens completed and being enjoyed in the spring sunshine.”
The Portsmouth scheme was thoughtfully designed around a large tree which was already on the site. It features curved benching and picnic tables where staff can sit and eat their lunch or have a coffee break.
A second staff garden has been created in a quiet area near the Adelaide Health Centre on the Western Community Hospital site in Millbrook, Southampton.
