Clinical Engineering team host staff open day

Ever wondered what goes on in Solent’s medical equipment library?

Our Clinical Engineering team will be throwing open the doors of their base at Rodney Road, Portsmouth, on Friday (15 March) to show staff the important work they do.

The library, designed to be a one-stop shop for any medical device that needs repairing or replacing, has proved popular with clinical teams since opening in 2022.

Now more Solent staff are being invited to check out the department for themselves at an open day, taking place at the end of Healthcare Science Week.

Tracy Hammond, Medical Devices Safety Officer, said: “We are inviting colleagues to pop in and have a look at what we do.

“Staff are welcome to join us for a chat about how we can support them, or they can ask for advice on a particular equipment issue if they have one.”

The Clinical Engineering team keep a stock of some of the most common pieces of equipment used by wards and departments across the organisation.

Some repairs can even be carried out on-site in a workshop to minimise disruption to patient care.

Tracy, who has worked for Solent NHS Estates and Facilities since 2020, was recently involved in the writing of NHS England’s official guidance on virtual wards including Hospital at Home.
